Identity: What Fashion Is For Women

So I've been thinking alot about how what we wear reflects our personality, and our Identity,  Women used to use fashion to show wealth and attract a husband, the classes of wealth could be distinguised through what women wore and how many outfits they had. Now in the developed countries clothes are cheap and usually fleeting;  of course there are many influences that effect what clothes we chose; the warmth, current fashion, size, the occasion, price.

I am lightly skimming the changing in clothes over the ages, the cultural differences, and the styles.

Identity Ideas

This blog is as much to find and gather ideas than to present them. So i will be noting down a few ideas as i come across them;
Fingerprints, Dna, Cell Structure. Skin and Bones,

The layering and texture of the first blue piece in the sketch book.

Nationality is another area I could explore

Identity Research

I have been google'ing and searching for inspiration, and have been come interested my Make Up. I found an image that i will post below by an Photograpgher called Leland Bobbé who says
"Through the power of hair and makeup these men are able to completely transform themselves and find their female side while simultaneously showing their male side. These are composed in camera and are not two separate images joined together."

I find the use of make-up on either females or males interesting because of the freedom for a person to express themselves and the issue of confidence as well. Make up can be a cover for many people, a security blanket which must be applied every, single, day.

However this insecutiry of ones own naked face is one created by the society that said-person is in.Slightly off topic maybe is who benefits preying on the insecurity and pressure that surronds make up.

Identity Mind Map.

I have been a little stuck for a while in which direction to take this project. With Identity, there is so much that could be challenged and explored through Art; style, race, gender, speech, social networks, friends, hobbies, religion, beliefs, political views, nationality, tribe, gangs, age, and change through the decades. I want my project to run smooth from topics, to be more a journey than unrelated fraction of Idenitity. Therefore i have started this project with a hobby I enjoy, Photograpghy, and linked this into my mind map. I used a Dream Catcher to literally catch these suggestions and display them in my photograpghy. Dream catchers also have a tribe feeling, and a cultural intrest to me, which will most likely be later explored.


The edits were all done by me, on either Adobe Photoshop, or GIMP.
